What does RPM do?
Builds a single RPM formatted file (package) for easier software distribution.
Installs, upgrades, verifies, and cleanly uninstalls software packaged in the RPM format.
RPM creates and manages a database that tracks:
- which packages are installed and their version
- which packages depend upon one another
- which files are contained within a given package
