RPM file naming convention

• On RedHat Linux, this convention is used to name the package file as found on disk, CDROM, ftp site, etc:

  • name_of_sw-sw_version-RPM_file_version.platform.rpm
  • Example: ddd-3.2-4.i386.rpm

• On SuSE, this convention is used:

  • name_of_software.rpm
  • Example: ddd.rpm
  • full_names directory on the SuSE CDROM uses the RedHat Linux convention.
