Advantages of LVM

• Scaleability

  • LVM has the capacity to manage exteremly large data sets

• Availability

  • PV's can be added, VG's and LV's extended onto the new space all while filesystems remain mounted and are in use.
  • Snapshot
    • a frozen "mirror" of a live LV can be taken for backup purposes. (this feature is currently kludgy...)
