Software distribution

• Linux software is distributed in various file formats:

  • Tar archives
  • RPM files
  • Debian format (not discussed in this talk)

• If your Linux distribution uses RPM (RedHat, SuSE, others), try to stick with it.

• Some programs might not be distributed as RPM, in those cases, grab a tar archive.
